Every Cup Counts

Last weekend, I had a lemonade stand with my daughters, Lucy (five) and Hannah (three). They love a good lemonade stand. Even though they are young enough to not REALLY understand the concept of money, they love the process and having something to put in their piggy banks at the end of the day. So it was a neat opportunity to talk about that money and what else it could do—and who it could help. They know mommy works to help other mommies and at this age, that’s enough. What I loved most was them getting to feel a part of what mommy does every day. We made up a pitcher of pink lemonade, since they (obviously) really like pink and probably drank about half ourselves but the remaining part of the pitcher ended up yielding $22! (is that a record?) Cute salespeople helped but once the customers heard what the proceeds were going towards, they threw in an extra few bucks and stayed to chat a bit about the issue and also what Every Mother Counts was doing to address it.

If you would like to host a lemonade stand with your children this summer, we have put together a Lemonade Stand Kit to help you get started. Give it a shot—and let us know how it goes!
