Summer of Sisterhood: Donate Your Old Cell Phones

Every Mother Counts Staff
July 5, 2012

Have any old cell phones you no longer use lying in a drawer? Did you realize they could be lifelines for mothers around the world? One of our favorite partners, Hope Phones, can make that happen. Hope Phones collects used cell phones, recycles them, and uses the proceeds to purchase phones on the local market for health workers so that they can better do their jobs and reach more women.

All you need to do is send in your phones or you could even organize a cell phone drive at your church, at the pool, or wherever you think you'll see some foot traffic. Hope Phones will send you packing materials for free shipping. Then all you have to do is find a good place to put it and get the word out!

The phones we collect this summer will be going to support a program in Kenya, one of the hardest hit countries in terms of maternal health.  Given that there are only 14 doctors per 100,000 people, we need to make sure every health worker can at least connect back to their clinic when out visiting patients.
