The Philippines have recently been experiencing terrible flooding due to seasonal monsoon rains and a nearby tropical storm. So far, 780,000 people have been forced from their homes. Our dear friend, midwife and CNN Hero, Robin Lim who is based in nearby Bali, Indonesia, is asking for our help and support for the midwives, moms, and babies of the Philippines who are affected during this time.

Robin writes to us:

"As I hug the three moms who gave birth at Bumi [Sehat clinic], Bali, in the last 24 hours, and the mom who is laboring now, I feel so blessed to have a dry place for them to have their babies. Two days ago we had two birth emergencies, and I wonder, could we midwives have handled them so smoothly, and saved the mothers' lives, had we been flooded.

Even when the flood waters recede, the Mercy in Action Midwives need a permanent Childbirth clinic on higher ground."

Join Robin and I in sending your prayers and donations to support the midwives, moms, and babies of the Philippines. These women deserve a safer clinic to bring life into the world.

About Mercy in Action:

Mercy in Action is a non-profit organization that focuses on the crisis in Maternal/Newborn/Child health care worldwide. We have been establishing and funding free birth centers for poor families in the Philippines since 1992, and to date more than 12,000 babies have been delivered free of charge for the poorest of the poor in Mercy In Action's Birth Centers, and literally tens of thousands of lives have been helped and healed in the medical outreaches. Our current Birth Center is Mercy Midwives Birthing Home outside of Olongapo, Philippines.
