Dr. Vanessa Kerry has been on our minds lately because she’s a new mom doing really important work in the world. Stephanie Freid-Perenchio is a photographer and gallery owner who captures gripping imagery that encompasses her passions – humanitarian work, endangered animals and empowerment of girls and women to name a few. She’s created a Mother’s Day ritual that’s really touched our hearts and she’s found a way to include Every Mother Count’s and our supporters in it.

Last week we blogged about a set of premature twins delivered while Christy and Clancy were in Haiti. They were born in a hospital that was unequipped to provide the long-term respiratory support premies need and were transferred by ambulance to a hospital an hour-and-a-half away. Spring is in the air and all we want to do is hang out with our inspiring friends and partners. Want to join us? First, we’re meeting up with Heather Armstrong (Dooce.com) at Joss & Main to check out the collection she’s curating. Then, we’re heading over to Minted for new stationery, invitations and children’s art.

April came in like it always does - rainy, windy, sunny, warm and freezing - presenting just about every weather pattern possible. Maybe that’s why Earth day is celebrated in April, because no other month demonstrates Mother Nature’s random beauty and chaos quite as well. It’s the first full month of spring, which generates feelings of hope and new beginnings and a desire to clean and get organized.

We’re nearing the end of our campaign to donate used cell phones to Hope Phones. We’ve been thrilled with the response and want to take this chance to say thank you to everyone who’s effort has made this campaign such a success.

We were talking with Kathryn Hall-Trujillo about helping to get some of her safe birth kits to a clinic in Haiti when we visit there this month. We couldn’t stop chatting and pretty soon Kathryn’s sharing her remarkable career story starting with the time she moved out of the Oakland bus station and into a UCLA dorm room with her two children.
