Today is World Water Day, an international event held every March 22nd to draw attention to the global water crisis and to celebrate how far we’ve come in making sure everybody has access to clean water. In honor of World Water Day, we would like to bring your attention to an older post, published on our site in October.

Debra Pascali-Bonaro. LCCE, BDT/PDT(DONA) is the heart of the gentle birth movement. She’s the director and creator of the documentaries, Orgasmic Birth and Organic Birth. She trains doulas and educates childbirth professionals and new parents all over the world about the powerful role birth plays in women’s lives when they’re permitted to experience it fully. Debra launched her new website this month to tie together the many different yet interconnected facets of her work. Since we’ve been focusing on new beginnings, we wanted to give a shout-out to a woman who’s work we so admire and a website we think is excellent.

Many of us are looking at the holidays with a new perspective this year. We love giving gifts to our friends and families, and we want to make our gifts more meaningful than ever. We’re hoping this year’s EMC gift guide will help you do all that. We’ve been working with our partners on a collection of beautiful presents for the people on your list. A portion of every purchase you make will be donated to Every Mother Counts and we’ll make sure that donation goes directly to helping save mothers’ lives around the world.

Today is International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development. It’s sponsored by the United Nations and offers an opportunity for volunteer organizations and individual volunteers to make their contributions visible- at local, national and international levels - to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Just make today be the day you sign up to make a difference.

It's that time of year again! Hope Phones and EveryMotherCounts are joining forces to challenge your family to gather old cell phones from your neighbors while trick-or-treating this. The funds raised from recycling them will support a program to connect mothers and babies to medical care in the developing world.

Advocacy – it’s the centerpiece of our mission statement and the focus of what we do at Every Mother Counts, but what exactly does it mean? Essentially, advocacy means getting people organized so they can make their intentions clear and put them into action. Advocacy is how history is made. Every generation champions causes that advance their standing as full citizens of the world, improving their own lives and those of the next generation. Over the past hundred years countless causes have been at least as challenging as EMC’s mission to improve global maternal health and reduce maternal mortality. But, imagine the world if advocates hadn’t met these challenges:.

World Humanitarian Day (August 19, 2012) celebrates those brave individuals who risk their lives to help others. Designated by the United Nations General Assembly to honor UN staff members killed in 2003 in the UN headquarters bombing in Baghdad, World Humanitarian Day has evolved to include all humanitarians who help millions of people around the world live safer, happier, healthier and more prosperous lives.

Join us to raise awareness on the hundreds of thousands of girls and women around the world who die each year from complications in pregnancy and childbirth. We run so others don’t have to. We have spots available, and will provide the t-shirt and training tips in exchange for your commitment to raise awareness and funds. Or if you're already running a race and want to run on behalf of EMC, let us know too!

We are so grateful to those of you who participated in May’s “Every Action Counts” efforts. So often, we receive emails inquiring how one can help Every Mother Counts. We point out our “Take Action” page but are always open to new, creative ways for involvement. A few people came up with unique ways to participate and added their personal touch to make a difference. We’d like to highlight their originality and hope it might inspire others.
