There are millions of us around the world - women and men whose career is the caretaking of patients and their families, midwives, doctors and other healthcare providers. We’re nurses and it’s our responsibility to monitor our patients and put their care and treatment plans into action, but there’s a whole lot more to it than simply taking notes and following directions.

Nadene Brunk is the Founder and Director of Midwives for Haiti. She started her career as an OB nurse, which makes this post doubly timely. Yesterday was International Day of the Midwife and today is National Nurse’s Day.

Last week we blogged about a set of premature twins delivered while Christy and Clancy were in Haiti. They were born in a hospital that was unequipped to provide the long-term respiratory support premies need and were transferred by ambulance to a hospital an hour-and-a-half away. We said a prayer, hoped for the best and sent compassionate, healing thoughts to the twins and their mother.
