Job posting - Director of Social Media needed
Every Mother Counts is an advocacy and mobilization campaign to increase education and support for maternal and child health. Every Mother Counts seeks to engage new audiences to better understand the challenges and the solutions while encouraging them to take action to improve the lives of girls and women worldwide. Every Mother Counts is still a very small organization but has offices in both New York and Washington, DC. This position will work out of our DC location, under the supervision of the Executive Director.
The Director of Social Media will lead the development of a new social media strategy and implement this strategy, with the goal of increasing awareness of the Every Mother Counts campaign amongst the general public, increasing web traffic and signs up through the website and social media platforms, driving activity around key campaigns and maintaining the Every Mother Counts website.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In consultation with the EMC team and the media and technology advisory board, devise a social media strategy to help accomplish EMC’s stated goals and will lead the implementation of that plan.

Manage social media campaigns and day-to-day activites. Duties include online advocacy, writing editorial, community-outreach efforts, promotions, etc.

Manage presence in social networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, and other similar community sites, posting on relevant blogs, seeding content into social applications as needed and encouraging dialogue amongst the community

Become an advocate of EMC in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate

Manage email outreach to the community and encourage new sign ups

Maintain and update the EMC website with news updates and blogs, new spotlights, new actions as per the organization’s goals.

Assist in development of effective online advocacy tools

Track and incorporate developing trends, strategies, and best practices into EMC’s online work

Willingness and ability to take on broader projects related to the organization’s mission as needed
SPECIFIC TYPES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Bachelors required
-
At least 2 years experience working on internet-based campaigns, particularly for political organizing or issue advocacy

Strong project management and ability to self motivate and direct

In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants and how they can be deployed in different scenarios

Knowledge of blogging ecosystem relevant to maternal and child health

Superior writing and editing skills

Superior critical thinking, communication, and relationship-building skills
-
Ability to produce under pressure and tight deadlines

Ability to work in a team-based, collaborative environment

Basic knowledge of HTML and comfort with internet-based applications

Self-motivated and results-oriented
-
A record for being reliable, utilizing sound judgment and responding well to adversity

Knowledge of international development issues a plus
